Julie tells us more about her Mod Top:

“Well, my uncle bought the vehicle from a little old lady in Pasadena, CA. (true story!) Back in 1981 I believe. I purchased it from him in November of 1996. He had not driven it for 4 years. Worked on it maybe 15 minutes…..lubing everything….started right up. 2 weeks after I bought the car for $1000, a guy stopped and offered me $5000 but I would not sell and I have been offered many times since, but I won’t even consider it. Since I’ve had the car I have replaced the carburetor, spark plug wires, battery, belts….little stuff like that. It has always driven well for me and never left me stranded. This car truly is a member of my family and shall remain so.

My goal is to totally restore this vehicle to completion but I’ve had a hard time finding mod interior and vinyl. I did paint it only because it was injured slightly at work and they footed the bill for a complete paint job. Eventually I will go back to original color but funds elude me right now. I also had them take the top off….not because I didn’t like it but I had some rust issues under there and well with no replacement to put on….I was kinda stuck.

There was rust in the quarters and under my back window where the molding clips fit in. I am having that all taken care of as we speak with new patch panels (metal) put in and new metal under the window along with various bumps and bruises around the entire body taken care of. It may not look like a ModTop on the outside right now but I’ll tell you what … the interiors the same!”
